Ringdown-free QNM campaign

This campaign will progress through gated stages:

  1. direct-pole baseline convergence at increasing Meep resolution/PML padding;
  2. warm-start and branch-continuity perturbation tests;
  3. complex-pole derivative central-difference audit;
  4. driven selected-mode overlap and directionality audit;
  5. port-objective derivative central-difference audit;
  6. trust-region optimization with an incumbent and rollback;
  7. sparse independent Tidy3D certification within the credit ledger.

No stage is allowed to use a high-Q time-domain ringdown.

The stock/seeded Meep 3D baseline failed its shifted-linear-solve gate on 2026-07-29. Stages 1–2 are therefore paused for that backend, and no reported 3D pole from those attempts is accepted. Work continues with a preconditioned frequency-domain kernel while the preserved analytical Quan engine supplies the positive-control observables.

The scalar preconditioned kernel passed its complex-pole and selected-port derivative central-difference gates on 2026-07-29. It is now the method fixture for developing vector Maxwell/PML and unit-power modal extensions; it is not promoted as a 3D cavity result.
